Hebrews 11 inspires the first step for SLC: This church will be planted by faith! The idea of faith -bodyslams- the practical circumstances that might discourage from a life lived closely to God.
“Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. 2 Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.
3 By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.”
This famous passage in scripture explains what faith is, and what its benefits are. Let’s look at a few words in this passage.*
• πίστις (pistis), Faith – A state of certainty in belief.
• ὑπόστασις (hupostasis), Confidence & Assurance – A substantial, internal confirmation that something is going to happen.
• μαρτυρέω (martyreō), Reputation – To speak respect of, speak well of.
Because of a substantial assurance inside of us that takes action, our reputation will be known.
I dare say that others, if not our very own children will be inspired to follow in our footsteps.
Stepping out into the unknown is an idiom that is ‘nice’ to think about, write about, and speak of. It’s romantic. Taking the step into the unknown, physically, is another thing altogether.
Yet, by faith, we actually are stepping into the known by God. When faced with an opportunity that promises little, challenges everything, and demands all you have to give – we have one of two options as my wife so eloquently stated this past week, “Go big, or go home!”
As we start this new gathering together, we welcome you to take the step into the unknown-to-man/known-by-God future with us! Stockholm Life Church is beginning. You have one life to live, why not spend it on something that is inspiring, live-giving and honors God in faith?
*NLT rocks for speaking and inspiring, ESV is good for fidelity to the original literary languages of Hebrew and Greek.
